Red Feathered Hut

*
A blizzard is coming; everyone's in a rush
a cardinal pips a song about mercy
then retreats into his red feathered hut~
                           *
People scurrying about gathering things
eaves are quickly collecting ivory dust
above hacking shovels and sweet gasoline~
                           *
Plowmen and salters are smoothing the ruts
wind chimes lie silent as playground swings
quietly praying for the strays and the bums~
                           *
Mercifully it's over, drifts framing the morning
the crooner comes out of his red feathered hut
pips a song about the charity of pine trees and sun.
                           *

This poem has a magical feeling that no words can hope to express half as well.
