Reasons

Dance with me
until life fades away and all that remains
is you. us. this.

Sing to me
while the darkness closes in around and
leaves only the light of your lips skimming over mine. (Music).

Drink with me
as the music blares and smoke fills the room,
lights and sound crashing together. (Hope).

Lay next to me
as I rest my head on your heart listening only
to its percussion letting me know that you're still there. (Dreams).

You ask
how I can miss you when you're right next to me.
I ask
how can you not? there's so little time left.
each moment you're gone is painfully wasteful.

I ask
how you can stand to leave me first in action if not word?
You ask
how can you not? there's nothing but pain left here.
it's stupid to stay involved.

Maybe you're right. I stay for the hope
that you'll drink with me,
laugh with me,
dance with me,
kiss me
one more time.

Because that would make it worth staying just a little while longer.

How could it not?
