Reason

I have reasons by the dozen
why I’m the man you know,
and thanks to reason’s rationale,
	precaution I oft show.
I’ve always had good reason,
	for thinking actions through,
and that’s sufficient grounds,
	for doing what I do!

A reason can be helpful
	if it’s allowed free rein,
for it automatically seeks,
	to lessen daily strain.
When I argue without reason,
a lost cause it can be,
so I accept the good advice,
	reason offers me.

I do little without reason,
	it is a staple chore,
and acting without reason,
	is something I deplore,
for reason is the rationale,
	that thinking people use,
whilst action without reason,
	does little but amuse!

Reason can be a lifeline,
	when you need it most,
but you must prove to be,
	an open minded host.
When we listen close to reason,
it can clear the way ahead,
as it tends to smooth our road,
and not a time to dread.

So advice I offer you,
is to think before you act,
and let reason be your counsel,
for it’s a well known fact,
reason can be your savior,
	if diligently applied,
whilst acting without reason,
can prove hurtful to your pride!

I too am a great advocate of reason - and managed to operate a family business with my old dad - all because of reason and the willingness to see a better direction should it be presented. Great poem. Best regards Den from Dennis

Sounds reasonable;-) Sorry, couldn't resist. I got a lot of knots on my head before I figured this one out. You portray wisdom quite eloquently. Enjoyed ~ john
