Reality and Confusion

It was not so hard of a shift.

But there appeared a rift.

Between reality and me.

I felt a little too free.

As if my mind was protecting itself from a blaze.

On the other side of that rift is a haze.

Like a coma, I am somewhat aware.

That someone is stroking my hair.

For the first time- I felt something other than sadness and fear.

As if I am in this peaceful haven where there are no tears.

But tears are sprouting fast.

From my parents, whose pain will last.

If only I could fuse reality and happiness.

A reality I’m avoiding- as there is too much distress.

The reality of what little I’ve accomplished…

I shall survive- but I will be abandoned and not missed.
