Reading Is a Cinch Ladybug Said
Reading is a cinch, the lady bug said.
I plan to do it all day today and maybe tomorrow.
I don’t get it said five-year-old-Fred.
It brings me all kinds of anguish and sorrow.
Maybe you don’t do it right, the lady bug said.
You have to know your letters and sounds each makes.
Fred stared at the red dots of the lady bug’s head.
Is that all reading is? Is that all it takes?
It’s phonics, she replied. It’s not difficult you know.
Just memorize your letters, and reading is easy.
The sounds they make, Fred whispered down low.
You make it sound doable, fun and a bit breezy.
