Reaching For the Stars
I’m so high on life, I’m higher than the moon,
It’s no longer mind-altering substances that I consume,
I keep my feet on this straight and narrow path,
Saving my life from its downhill destructive wrath,
It’s times like these where I’ve seen brighter days,
I wake up thankful now, giving God all of my praise,
As I look back on my life, on my darkest hour,
Sober now, I see I was living my life as a coward,
I’ve done some rotten things, I’ve made some bad mistakes,
But when the time comes for me to make amends I’ll do whatever it takes,
I’m sober now, I would’ve never imagined,
That something as good as this could ever have happened,
One day at a time, simple yet so profound,
If I live my life by this, I will not be brought back down,
I’ve been through more than enough and have no regrets,
I will never put down my recovery to experience my yets,
Like I have yet to use a needle or have yet to gone to prison,
Been in jail for a few nights that’s where God gave me this vision,
That if I get clean, I have a story that needs to be told,
To encourage that next addict to get clean before his life unfolds,
Staying clean it is so simple yet it is truly hard,
But now I can reach for my dreams instead of becoming falling star,
I think about what I wanted to be before my addiction
A liar, cheat, and thief, this was not my prediction,
But life is better now, I’m headed in the right direction,
I fear no evil now that I know I have God’s protection,
I truly live each day as if it were my last,
Proud of the man I’ve become and thankful for my past,
Times still do get tough, life is never perfect,
But I know longer have to alter my mind to see that life is worth it,
So I make this commitment, I will give recovery my all,
And reach for those stars as I hold my head up high and stand up tall!
