Rainy Bird of Morning

Here at garden salad seas
The scene of time’s repeated theft
A rain upon the poplar trees
Witnesses vigor bereft

A paradox of time and place
Which Dickens did once suggest
Lonely in a crowded space
The worst time yet the best

The rainy bird of morning song
Of foraging and flock
Recalls that while time cycles on
Still naught can slow the clock
