Rainbows and Roses

Sometimes a person supposes, When asked to describe how things are, That talking of rainbows and roses Will hide what might startle or jar. By painting a picture so sunny, Believing you’ll fool those who asked, What happens, I’d bet even money, Is that some will know truth has been masked. For lies rarely stay nicely hidden, Since facts often end up revealed, Exposing the one who, unbidden, Learns guile’s a bad weapon to wield.

This is oh so true. "For lies rarely stay nicely hidden, Since facts often end up revealed, " I like this very much - the whole missive.

I never ask how people are doing as they never stop talking! As we see on Soup, some people enjoy recounting every mishap whereas others accept misfortune as their fate. But you certainly nailed this one! Aloha! Rico

There are some people who try to hide the challenges they face, Ilene. It's hard to strike the perfect balance between giving too much information or not enough. We can usually tell the truth. Sad, isn't it? Beautifully penned. Hugs, Carolyn

I think most of us do try to paint a "sunny" picture, even when we're feeling down. At least we spare others our anguish, but the truth usually does have a way of rising to the top. Interesting and creative, Ilene. Hugs, Carolyn
