Raccoons
As a young lad I was climbing an apple tree
when I spotted two baby raccoons only feet away from me,
hugging each other as they stared at me intensely.
That experience back then forever changed me.
Of all the animals in all of the animal kingdom,
raccoons remain my favorite. I truly love them,
but today many only see them as nothing but vermin
and don't even give it a second thought about killing them.
Sometimes I'm ashamed to be a part of the specie known as human.
