Quick! Call the poet!

Quick! Call the poet!
This moment is fleeting fast
The bursts of color at dusk are not going to last

Hurry, get her here!
Give her a paper and pen
For the girl’s heart’s not done breaking
We’re not even close to the end

So write out the words, poet, with your melodies in ink
We’ll stare in awe and urge you on, but you don’t so much as blink
Because if you take your eyes off, the beauty slips from your grasp
The sonnets that your heart cried out weren’t written before they passed.
Make sure you take advantage of every agonizing feeling
But twist them into something pretty, and call your stab wounds “healing”
Whatever it takes to show them that it doesn’t last forever
So that when they fall apart, you face it all together
You say you give it your all
You say the stories are raw
But the truth dissolved in the tears down your cheeks
As you write about love and the secrets you keep
Show, don’t tell, don’t make everything rhyme
You’d be writing forever, if you only had time
But with power comes pressure, neither with control
And life has other plans, they’ve already found your role
The worlds swirl in your brain as you stare at a desk
Longing to write on the back of that test
But creativity is stifled with threats of Fs and zeroes
While they tell you to focus on studying the world’s heroes.
Your emotions have built up, all the fear and doubt
Trapped in a notebook, longing to get out.
But there’s things to do, assignments to complete
So you’ve no choice but to ponder until AST.
