Quest of the Heart: Chapter Five

Love’s Crusade Won The blade met the ice in a vast explosion Burying itself deep up to the hilt inside Her frozen dungeon began to split and shatter At last crumbling apart releasing my Bride She fell limp and cold into my outstretched arms That moment my heart held still then she took a breath Never a greater joy was bestowed upon me! My Love still lived I seized her back from the jaws of death! I held my Gennifer in a long tight embrace Soon she opened her soft brown eyes and smiled at me “My brave Sir Knight” she whispered and gave me a kiss “I kneweth thou my Love wouldst secure my release” I gazed into her eyes and proclaimed in true love “Thou art more precious to me than my own soul!” “For thee, my Love, I wouldst travel the universe wide,” “It seems I hath done so to be by thy side!” I set her down and held her shaking and dazed While the warmth of my hug warmed her frozen body Hugo flew down and landed on her shoulder We stood there we three in complete ecstasy I observed a hole where the ice wall had fallen It opened up onto a ledge over the ground I surveyed the outlet for a means of decent But no way to the world below could be found Just then the mountain began to rumble and quake This fabric of Draco’s design was starting to rend We had no means of escape back to our realm Had I found my Love for us to die in the end? If we were to meet death, we would do so together We held on tight in each other’s arms to await The ground shook violently, the ice grotto caved in Stranded on the rock shelf we attended our fate Suddenly a shadow swooped down over our heads An unforeseen event occurred much to our surprise Coming to our rescue was my faithful old friend Shadow Mane come alive before our very eyes! Landing on the rock face he motioned us to him I jumped upon his back lifted my Love to my side He took off with wings afire, Hugo chasing after Homeward bound on dear old Shadow Mane we would ride! THE END...?
