Pure Innocence

Little one your dreams are sweet
Filled with teddy bears and toys
Too young to be swept off your feet
One day soon you'll dream of boys

Your heart is safe from breaking now
Innocence that's pure and bright
May you never find out how
Love can steal your shining light

Hope no tears fall on your pillow
In some desolate morning hour
Be strong like the weeping willow
Never let go of your power

Love can be a wondrous thing
Let it be that way for you
Little one I hope you sing
With a voice that's strong and true

May your song light up the sky
Filled with hope and happiness
Never have to question why
Never have to second-guess

Why love's left you feeling old
Counting all the tears you've cried
What made passion turn stone cold
Wondering how much he has lied

So wee one count your little sheep
Off to dreamland you can go
Don't worry now, this all will keep
Some things you don't need to know

I enjoyed reading your poetry this morning Deb. I am looking forward to tomorrow and what I might read of yours again. Never let your pen lay and dry out. The best to you in your writing endeavors whatever they may be. Love, Carol

Very descriptive write about that mother in the background who knows the future and what it could hold...But you would only want happiness for the child for sure..Enjoyed reading your work..Sara
