Punched and Pierced
"The wound is the place where the light enters you".—Rumi
She had left on that wedding night,
When all had waited to see her smile.
The man she loved, was a man of might--
Who sought her out, in his usual guile.
For there he threw her, on the floor---
Where all his family gathered as fast.
He had blown his enemy’s pride,
Who? but her family! she learned aghast.
Was that all he had been up to?
To set things right by hoax not love?
His brother stepped in, but not to woo,
To save her from the devils above.
As she saw her mother break ====
Into a solemn trance-like scream.
Her father looked away in hate.
She felt as if it was a dream.
She wanted them to understand---
It was never, never in her design
Her father had the brother fanned,
Till he left with studied refine.
The very next day the daughter was thrown
Out of the house as others stared.
A punishment in waiting, but one outgrown.
This is not how his daughter fared!!
Always an apple of their eyes,
One so chaste, with nothing to scorn.
Out of the world, a fairy, a prize.
Night cast shadow on the golden morn.
He promised that day, never to talk
To her alone, not others who meant.
His ego pumped, he felt the rock---
Weigh on his chest, his love all spent.
One day she came to see her dad
It was what she saw that shocked
A funeral prayer, her name, they had--
The earth seemed still, as others gawked.
The wound was scorching, she felt the pain
A glint of hope, still lit in her chest.
To make amends, she’d refrain
From the man, the brother, who loved with zest.
She resumed work to where she belonged,
A doctor fine, she carried her well.
Though at times she felt being wronged
She let the thorn pierce her veil.
A veil of deceit, she’d worn so long,
Never for once did her father know--
A wound so deep cast her forlorn.
Tears veiled her beauty and glow.
She lived alone and carried her task.
Her merit praised she grew to fame.
Her father kept his sorrow in mask.
To him, this was all, a stupid game.
She bore it through, for all the years.
In solitude alone, she gained her strength.
Slowly she overcame all her fears.
In divine love, he trusted at length.
