Protection Or Destruction

As with all things young and pure,
protection isn't always the cure,
sometimes it seems like lies,
through your tear covered eyes,
I want to wipe away your tears
and hold you close and tight, to drive away your fears,
to show you that you mean more
to me than my core
that your happiness is all I want,
but pain seems to be the only thing I wrought
I want it to be different this time,
for this not to be some other corny rhyme,
for this love to be true
for you to be the only one that I ever say I love you,
for us to go old,
but our hearts never grow cold
for us to keep warm with our love
and spend eternity together, here and in the world above
