Prisoner of His Own Heart

this wounded man he took a stand
and forever chained his heart

she took his hand this wounded man
promised her love was true

her love was heaven sent
from God himself above

but his heart was heavy
with chains that bind

this wounded man
he walked away

left her weary and broken

this wounded man
he didn’t know

that truer words
were never spoken

this wounded man
he could not see

the love he had forsaken

yet her heart and soul
he had taken

this wounded man
he could not see

her undying love was meant to be

this wounded man
has grown so old

and now he is left
so all alone

this wounded man
he thinks of her

and his heart it gives a stir

this wounded man
he thinks of her

the love that could have been

a tear streams down
his wrinkled face
memories of her
in his clouded mind

as once again he is reminded
of the love he left behind
