Prideful Pilferer
Into homes he breaks with grace and ease,
precious items he takes, whatever he please.
sneaky and silent, on items he'd prey
yet hidden in sight, an average man by day
The hours would pass until the night falls,
Through vents and crevices, our cunning one crawls.
Wallets and jewelry, things that shine,
Artwork and sculptures, even old wine.
Things of value, all he will steal
The difficult the job, the higher the zeal.
Finally, a task that would suit his skill
A high quality gem, a task to yield thrill.
Protected by lasers and gaunt guardsmen,
A shift to change when the hour strikes ten.
An opening he sees, through the vents he climbs
eager to add yet another to his crimes.
A gem so perfect, almost within sight,
an alarm is triggered, something was not right.
A trap was layed for our intrepid thief,
A feeling of victory that was all too brief.
Into the room, the authority did enter.
Surrounded by the police with the thief dead center.
His last job, this was or so it might seem,
but clever was our thief and this was his scheme.
Enter the building, trigger the ploy,
Become a false target, play the decoy.
All eyes on him but not on her,
Another thief enters, it was over in a blur.
Smoke filled the room, all sight was blocked,
No thief, no gem, the police chief stood shocked.
Not alone is our thief in his life,
His partner and his accomplice, also his wife.
A victory claimed and an arrest he delays,
To this crafty thief, Crime always pays.
