Pretending

I'm a doctor of philosophy and medicine.
Those are just two of my practicing current professions.
A rescue worker I've also been
and served many tours of duty on rescue missions.
I'm also a successful author of creative writing,
as well as a song writer whose lyrics are sung by successful musicians.
I volunteer as a Big Brother and in many soup kitchens.
I've organized ralleys against injustice with peaceful protesting,
but all of the above is in my imagination.
My life is as dull as ones life could be.
The only thing duller is my personality.
So I go to a bar every now and then
and many tall tales of myself I share with all who will listen.
It doesn't happen much but every so often
someone believes me and all of the stories I'm telling
and for one brief shining moment I feel like I'm interesting,
but the truth of the matter is, I'm only pretending.

Oh, you are telling my story. I entertain Fantasies of doing courage’s things and winning all types of approval. It helps dull that little voice inside telling me how awful I am. Such a courageous sharing. Thank you. Just before I read your poem I was thinking about how low my self esteem is. We could talk together for hours. God bless you.
