Power of Forgiveness

I was born into violence.
In a village by the sea.
Six siblings and me.

Shotgun wedding.
No contraception.
God forgive them.

Scenes were witnessed
by little children.
Innocent bystanders.

Clumps of hair,
smashed dish.
Bruised fist.

All in the past.
Both now dead.
Tears shed.

Seven are strong,
all get along.
Shared history.

Six with children
of their own.
Different homes.

How so much love
grew from hate.
We celebrate.

Hope Mum and Dad
are happy in heaven.
Long been forgiven.

From sad to wonderful. I was lucky. I grew up in a loving home. Have seen and heard of awful conditions in my many years of teaching. Continued happiness and love to you and yours. daver

Jean my dear. Once we see the bad side of love, we learn to recognize it. Your poem tells that story. Really a super write! Peace my friend:)

I hug you back Anne Lise. I am here in Australia hugging my sister night and morning, as I do with my daughters. It is she who prompted this poem. She needs to verbalise her deep hurt and can only do it with her kin.
