Portraits

I guess sometimes I write, just to get through the long empty night, when the loneliness comes to settle in, and it feels like a dear old friend, so to escape it’s gnawing grip , I pick up a pen and I take a trip , down memory lane, where i am cleansed by a warm summer rain, back to all the wonderful places, filled with friends and familiar old faces I fall asleep my eyes filled with tears, no dreams drift thru my mind, only thoughts of all the days now left so far behind, how I ended up here all alone, walking through this life on my own, after all the people Ive known, realizing now, how far apart we've grown, where have all the years gone, where are the nights filled with stars we once wished upon, accepting the truth, when long ago I said goodbye to my youth, good bye to the days, when I only thought in child like ways, my mind was care free, with a big world waiting out there for me, what did I find, on an adventure into a future already designed, i found all those wonderful things that only become memories, for the long empty nights, vivid portraits of time, pieces of life, now left behind
