Portland Spring

Columbia, Willamette stream
Forth their gentle run,
As salmon glint beneath each beam 
Of a Northwest sun.

The rain-swelled rivers rise and roll
Back where they began,
Like ups and downs of someone’s soul:
Seasons of a man,
