Pop, Pop, Poppin

Pop, pop, poppin’ Never stopin’ There is no break, From COVID outbreak. It’s late and I’m on my own, Fireworks bang and I’m all alone But the noise hits me It tries to trick me Is it my friend? Is it my foe? It all depends on who you know. Infection is definite It’s seeks and destroys Maybe there’s a benefit In the midst of the noise. Who is out there? Setting up rockets Shooting through the air I reach in my pocket I put it in the air I’m neither here nor there. I think they’re done Another night of fun Father has nightmares He’s ptsd and pissed He jumps awake Over and over again. I’m trying to listen Beyond what I hear I’m trying to be One with my fear. Another rough day Another rough year But hope is there always When the smoke clears. My pain is my best friend It’s a learned thing To take what you hate And accept what it brings Pop, pop, poppin’ It’s sure to end And when it’s stoppin’ I’m alone again.
