Pondering On the Roof Top-

cigarettes bounced up and down
on our lips, while we spoke
and a murmur of honest words
hovered around us with the smoke

a late night conversation
addressing all our hopes and dreams
of where we want to be going
and how great it all seems

sometimes we had a good laugh
others we’d just stare into space
taking about this or that, escorted by
memory-made smiles running over our face

as it got later, we had no more words
except “how are we gonna get down?”
and we would save similar discussions
for the next time around
