Pondering

It began with an unforeseen encounter
In the midst of a chaotic street fair
My only thought was how to enchant her
Only to have my heart left bare

Flustered and caught off guard
My thoughts became a whirlpool
Circular and savage they swirled so hard
Stumbling through the crowds, I felt such a fool

Were my eyes closed? Was I so naive?
Was my optimism out of control?
My feelings hosed, was she setting me free?
Here that whirlpool comes, out on patrol.

Words versus actions,
perceptions versus reality,
The duality of emotional sanctions.
How does one get rid of the insecurity.

Pondering for what seems an eternity
Searching for what seems an obscurity
Starting to realize it's all a matter of perception
Beginning to understand you are not the exception.
