Poet's Daffodil
At the crystal lake where Narcissus once gazed at his reflection
stands a handsome flower with a white silken face and golden eye.
I can hear Echo’s voice on the wind which wails forlornly.
*Poet's Daffodil’s bright yellow eye watches me intently.
Pen in hand - pondering how vanity left beauty in its stead -
I sit and now start writing as the flower nods approval.

*Poet's Daffodil is Narcissus poeticus, one of the first
daffodils to be cultivated. It is associated with the Greek
legend of Narcissus.
