Poetry Soup

Poetry soothes the hurting wounded soul
Opens up the broken heart, makes it whole.
Each line one reads bringing joy or pain
Touches the spirit like gentle rain,
Replenishes your yearning to write
Your verses and rhymes, your muse’s delight.

Sonnets, shapes, sijo, sestina, too
Our formats not limited...a few
Uplifting the depressed, take up the scroll
Poetry soothes the hurting, wounded soul.

So true. I couldn't think of anything to write an acrostic about when Poetry Soup popped into my brain. Voila!

Touching, sincere truthfulness comprises this acrostic, Milt. I think that it's 'write' up Line's alley. :) gw

I hope so. Guess I'll find out. It was the only acrostic idea that came to mind.

You've written a marvelous acrostic, L Milton. I echo your fine sentiments. Poetry Soup has brought me so much joy, and I've learned many poetry forms-so exciting and fun! Good luck in the contest.

Thanks, Evelyn. Acrostics are not my favorite formats because they seem too restrictive to me. I did my best, and occasionally I choose to write one. This one was fairly easy.

Once again I see how this is done...I will try this one day. I enjoyed reading this but especially when I realize the kind of poetry it was. Great job. Good luck

Thanks, Virginia. Go to the top of the Home page on Poetry Soup and click on Types of Poems. You can learn all about different styles/types of poems and how they are written. Try your hand at writing poems on whatever formats interest you. Most of us on here are amateurs. I've been writing poetry for over 50 years, but I still consider myself a learner.
