Poetry contests are clearly a numbers game. Don’t take them seriously; it will only maim. Enter eighty and hope to win three. This philosophy works for me.

i try to stay away from them, caren, because they usually make me feel bad (especially when i read the poems that scored higher than mine on the lists). of course, it's just one person's opinion, but why put yourself in the position of being rejected? still, at times i do give in...

I am running six of them at a time on another poetry site, and have no idea what I am doing. I just judge them according to what appeals to me because comparing poems is like comparing apples to wallpaper. They all have a unique function.

Crikey Caren, these days my mind struggles to come up with one poem. By that token I can enter a contest in about six months. But thanks for the heads up in your natty little ode
