Please Stay With Me

She stared at the pictures and all the memories came rushing in She knows these faces of children and remembers her life again Once again she heard their laughter like before her life fell apart A tear of joy streaked her soft cheek as she felt their love fill her heart It is all the warmth she can feel as her grandchildren hug her deep The light on their face as they smiled these memories she vows to keep A light twinkles in her grey eyes. a gentle smile slips ‘cross her face For just a few moments she is back in her family's embrace The light begins to peel away, her mind fades back to submission. Please stay she begs, to no avail cause her memories won't listen.

Such a beautiful, profound poem Jerry. So touching. The last two lines in particular are so sad. Very well written. I can relate to this as I see it every day working in a caring environment. Blessings to you and the gift of memory always.

Thank you for such beautiful and kind words. It takes a special person with a kind heart to help others through their times of need. Thank you for being there for them. May all your days be blessed my friend.

wow this brought a tear to my eyes, how precious memory can be, the worst nightmare for a mom is to not remember her kids, one day. Praying God keeps us alive and mentally alert :)

Amen, my friend. I know it is my wife's biggest fear, and I have to admit, mine too.

A beautiful piece, Jerry, and a good reason to fill our present lives with photographs to help when those "memories" are difficult to come by.

I think losing the power to remember the past is my worst fear. Thank you for reading and for your kindness.
