Play To Lose

I'm not here to stroke your ego,
Or be the victim of your lies.
I need to save myself
From the emptiness inside.

You might not see it yourself,
But we're playing tug of war.
A constant pull back and forth,
Like we're not a team anymore

I should let go of this rope.
Heal the lacerations on my skin.
I can't keep playing this game.
When my energy is wearing thin.

You tell me to change myself,
And argue when I disagree.
Tell me I care "too much".
Which is a flaw apparently.

You used to call me beautiful,
And it sounded so sincere.
But since then,
Harsh jokes or silence is all I seem to hear.

If your words hurt me,
I stay quiet in fear of seeming weak.
It's not fair I have to think twice,
Whenever I go to speak.

Who do I turn to
When I want someone to trust?
You never cared about me,
Since all you feel is lust.

I used to lie to myself,
Apologize for your mistakes.
But now I can see the truth,
And there's not much more I can take.

Everyone seems to understand me,
Except when it comes to you.
While I fight for you everytime,
I'm just some girl you chose to pursue.

You aren't who I thought you were.
My eyes always deceive.
My friends told me you were careless,
But I didn't want to believe.

I'm not some puppet girl,
You keep on a string.
Things aren't going to change,
So I need to stop wishing.

Don't tell me it's all in my head,
And you still care about me.
You never knew what you wanted,
So just set me free.

Well said! A voice of experience! The only thing one can certainly change in life is one's own attitude, so when beaux start trying to change YOU, you know they have a problem! Bonne chance! Aloha! Rico
