Play After Play

Cal, I just want you to know that I'm proud of you son
It's your time to put on a show, the world is your stage, it's your crowd to be won
Trust & believe me the road won't always be easy & there will come times when you feel as if the world is being foul to you son
But that's just life's set up so keep your head up because in the end you'll win, then you'll earn their respect & they'll bow to you son
Throughout life I've told you a lot of lies & for that I'm full of shame & I'm pissed, the pain still exists
The first time I stared into your eyes, it was then I realized that you were my life's biggest prize, the very moment that you came to exist
Life's greatest blessing but I was still stressing with questions, them long days at work left me drained from the shift
I'd make it home & be lifeless, my full attention wasn't given but still you remained driven so just know from the bottom of my soul, son I'm truly sorry & I apologize for every game that I missed
For every ball that you hit & every pitch that you threw
Moments I missed that I'll never get to cherish because I was selfish & careless, boy it eats me alive, I just wish that you knew
I was lost in my thoughts it's like my mind just went black, I was blind to the fact
And while I was abusing time I was losing time knowing in the back of my mind that's time lost, there's no rewinding it back
Anytime that you doubted me or felt that I put other stuff above you, just know I still loved you & that's God's honest truth aligned with just facts
Always knew you had a hunger within, that's the reason you hustled everyday & would grind to the max like there was no time to relax
Never stood in the shadow of me because you made the choice early on to be the man you would be, therefore you paved your own way
As a proud father I can say I am amazed by the way, that through hardships & all never once did you fall while navigating through life's maze
And it's truly been an honor to witness your greatness displayed watching as you excel throughout life, day after day, on & off the field making play after play.
