PILLAR OF STONE

PILLAR OF STONE No rustic charm, just manmade and synthetic Yet the effect is timeless, standing in silence The nod toward ancient times is sympathetic A symbol of peace, not conquest or violence Built here in the desert, sand swirling around From deep within, feel that strength emanate A sculpted blossom, just stuck in the ground The illusion is complete, as thoughts dissipate No clear message in scratched symbol or word Nor any resonating meaning about its existence Merely vague impressions that may be inferred Of the clarity that should come with persistence Perhaps it came from a millennium long before With the world still in a flux of natural coercion Reconciled with what future events had in store Or maybe merely erected as a playful diversion
