Ph D In Misery

I was born a simple man
Yet I've tried my best
Home work is not easy
I've failed all my tests

I never went to college
But I earned my degree
I studied real hard
But she still schooled me

Though the School of hard knocks
Charges no fee
I got a masters in heartache
And a Ph.D in misery

When I started her classes
I was absent a bit
I got my bachelors in lonely/lonesome
Then I had to quit

I couldn't afford
The price I had to pay
I loaned her my money
But she didn't stay

Though I've earned all my credits
I doubt I'll graduate
When she walked out it hurt me
She decided my fate

I've failed every class
Yet I've somehow moved on
I've taken top honors
Though she is still gone

I'm at the top of my class
Where no one wants to be
I've earned my masters in heartache
And my Ph.D in misery
