PETS I am upset: When I asked Dad for a pet He raucously laughed, Told me I was daft, And repeated my request To every guest - Who was thoroughly amused Making me embarrassed and confused! If it's not absurd to want a bird, Nor funny to ask for a bunny, Normal to wish for a goldfish, Natural of course to yearn for a horse, Acceptable to be moany for a little pony, Even at that to desire a cat, or a rat, or a dog or a frog, For goodness sake Even a snake! Why then is it so preposterous To ask for a Rhinoceros? I am confused.

Hi Anne-Lise and thanks for your welcome. Everyone is so friendly and encouraging which is so delightful and not what I am used to on another site where you can be ripped to pieces (not related to poetry)! Conclusion: Poets are nice people and therefore I am glad to be here! Thanks Khanya

Hi Skat, I wrote along reply but it seems to have disappeared and I now cannot remember what I said other than I love your name as it is a term of endearment in Afrikaans! I feel a cheat as I have never considered myself as a poet but have loved playing with words in rhyme form! I am old and now that I am sorting through life's mess I have found poems written over the years which has encouraged me to write again! Originally I wanted to collate all the children's poems into a book for my sister to illustrate, but she is now far away and probably not interested! Now I have the internet again I look forward to reading your poems. Love Khanya
