Pets
PETS
I am upset:
When I asked Dad for a pet
He raucously laughed,
Told me I was daft,
And repeated my request
To every guest -
Who was thoroughly amused
Making me embarrassed and confused!
If it's not absurd
to want a bird,
Nor funny
to ask for a bunny,
Normal to wish
for a goldfish,
Natural of course
to yearn for a horse,
Acceptable to be moany
for a little pony,
Even at that
to desire a cat,
or a rat,
or a dog
or a frog,
For goodness sake
Even a snake!
Why then is it so preposterous
To ask for a Rhinoceros?
I am confused.
