Pencil Mechanics

I have some mechanical pencils
And poof! With just one little click,
The lead is supposed to emerge and
Of course, in that pose it should stick.

But lo and behold, it’s not working!
The lead starts to slip and to slide
And just when I’m jotting a thought down,
It playfully slips back inside.

It’s better to keep to the old kind,
The yellowish ones made of wood.
They’re trusty and steadfast and stable;
It’s hard to improve on what’s good.

Yet there’s just the tiniest drawback –
When writing a lot, as I do,
If I carry a regular pencil,
I must carry a sharpener, too!

I used to write everything with a pencil. Then I got this laptop and I joined the world of concession.

Yep... a sharpener is really essential. I've never bothered with a mechanical pencil, just the good old No. 2's, although they can be too soft for my liking so I usually choose ones with harder lead (graphite) 'innards!' You're on the ball again, my dear! Best wishes, Keith

Oh it is so irritating when the lead breaks in them Ilene I am forever lending kids at school my pencils - they have no care they throw them around or back to me the lead breaks and they are useless... if it happens they never get to borrow another one lol:-( hugs jan xx
