Pencil Mechanics
I have some mechanical pencils
And poof! With just one little click,
The lead is supposed to emerge and
Of course, in that pose it should stick.
But lo and behold, it’s not working!
The lead starts to slip and to slide
And just when I’m jotting a thought down,
It playfully slips back inside.
It’s better to keep to the old kind,
The yellowish ones made of wood.
They’re trusty and steadfast and stable;
It’s hard to improve on what’s good.
Yet there’s just the tiniest drawback –
When writing a lot, as I do,
If I carry a regular pencil,
I must carry a sharpener, too!
