Pebbles

Time slips by
like pebbles
flowing gently
downstream
slipping silently on
before vanishing forever
into the eternal landscape
where the faces of those
we have loved and lost
blend like stars
in the seamless expanse
we call 'yesterday'.

For a moment I knew you
we were drops in an ocean
you have slipped from my grasp
and the pebbles
in the trickling stream of life
flow on.
