Passages

I once loved a lad of twenty We’d climb the hills with tall blades of grass so plenty Through wispy fields we would run so fast The golden splendor of our youth With no end, no last I once loved a fellow of forty and five We’d walk the shores hand in hand Feeling content and so alive Through sun kissed days and starry nights So much ahead with no known sorrow in sight I once loved a man of eighty and four We’d sit and talk and laugh and talk some more The twilight of life intrepid we go with no delusions Reflection brings such peace if not only a conclusion Alone I sit thinking of days of yore Alas I have loved and love no more
