Parents
Mothers have a duty
to the child they've born
Teach them not to need you
Teach them to be strong
Teach them all you know
Guide them as they grow
One day when the time comes
When the child is grown
You cannot be with them
Everywhere they go
That's when they must know
How to stand alone
All that you have told them
All that you have shown
When you can't be with them
That will guide them home
Teach them as they play
How to find their way
Mother is beside you
Child of my own
Unto you I've imparted
All that I have known
Now it's up to you
Let it lead you true
Child on your journey
Though I can't be there
I've done all I can to
Make sure you're prepared
Never be afraid
From the path to stray
Paths are there to show you
Where others walked before
But child I've prepared you
To be so much more
Leave the path you know
Make one of your own
One day on your journey
A parent you may be
Pass along the lessons
That you learned from me
Pass along as well
Those you learn yourself
It will be your duty
To teach the child you made
Teach them not to need you
Teach them to be brave
Teach them how to stand
Without holding your hand
One day when they're older
They will leave your side
You must make them ready
To live their own lives
Teach them to be more
Than us who came before
Let every generation
Far surpass the last
Looking to the future
Learning from the past
Let the children be
Everything they dream
