Parents

Some parents just let their children run riot Then blame it on E numbers in their diet I myself think that times have now changed The children nowadays are somewhat deranged Children are screaming for no apparent reason When they are off school it’s the screaming season Children can play parents one against the other If the dad won’t let them they’ll go ask the mother The children rule ok and the parents are immune Someone ought to tell them how to deal with them soon Children only act as their parents allow them to Some of these children belong in a secure zoo Most are lacking manners and don’t know right from wrong Our future generations just don’t seem to belong There are no deterrents they just do as they please Someone should tell them all about the birds and bees My children were no angels and they sometimes did things wrong But once I had got wind of it they didn’t do it for long Respect is what is needed and that has gone away This isn’t how it was back in my day My parents were strict and times back then were hard I was brought up and respected them without a credit card My mum and dad helped me so much to try and get along There were always there for me and taught me right from wrong

Interesting views on life today put to rhyme. I noticed that you said on my comments that you use to play the guitar. I don't know why you quit but one should never give up a hobby. Thanks for the comments. Keep writing. Sara

This is so true, Pamela. A dear friend and I were just talking yesterday about how "children's behavior" seems to have changed. But there was a more innocent quality in decades past. Excellent form, rhyme scheme and a provocative message that begs for answers. Great work! Love, Carolyn

Blame greed. Before women had equal pay for an equal job (almost...yeah, right!!!) most of them stayed home to teach their children right from wrong. But parents gave the reigns to day care centers and bought big cars while children learned to depend on others, many very different than the parents themselves. With fast food restaurants to cook their meals, and eating on the run, there's not much need or time for parental lessons.(Money or right from wrong... what gets the most time?) Good Poem!
