Palesmiles

It is there on your face, sweet and so shy
causes thought as to what story there is
I know it by instinct of my own recollections
like almost made up to hide some pain
being able to hear your shadow whisper
long told advise………….yet deep in the heart
a satisfaction of making yesterday a thing of
the past. I pass you on the sidewalk eye to eye
an understanding I imagine, a way to comfort
oneself that we are not alone or was this just
wishful thinking, old news blowing down a sidewalk
strangers with no idea what was being thought…who
knows,… we just said Hello with a nod and a smile.
