Pain

"PAIN"

MY MIND IN PAIN FOR SO MANY YEARS
MANY TIMES, I FOUGHT BACK THE TEARS
MY INSIDES, STILL LIVE IN FEAR
WHEN WILL I EVER GET BACK HERE

THE PAIN IN YOUR BODY, YOU LEARN TO BARE
YOU ACCEPT THAT MANY PEOPLE DONT CARE
ITS MEDICINE FOR THIS AND THAT, OH SO VERY SAD
THAT RESTLESS NIGHT WHEN YOU CAN'T SLEEP
WHEN YOU WALK THE FLOORS AND GENTLY WEEP

OH SO MANY DAYS YOU PUSH TO SURVIVE
YOUR STRESS AND ANGER YOU ASK TO DIE
REACHING OUT TO PEOPLE WHO WEREN'T THERE
KNOWING INSIDE YOU STILL HAVE THE FEAR
NOT TRUSTING OR WATCHING EVERYONE WHO IS NEAR
GOD YOU WANT TO SCREAM OUT "GET ME OUT OF HERE"

I HAVE TAKEN STEPS TO TRY AND HEAL
YET WAR, DEATH, IS SO VERY REAL
I GET BETTER FOR AWHILE, YET IT'S BACK AGAIN
YOU PRAY ONE DAY IT WILL END
I KNOW IT WILL, WHEN I DIE
I CAN RELIVE THE FEELINGS ISIDE
HELL I KNOW I TRIED AND TRIED.

YOU WATCH YOUR LOVE ONES, SUFFER TOO
THIS IS SO SAD BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO
THE ANGER, VIOLENCE, DESPAIR COMING OUT OF YOU
THEY SIT BACK AND CRY, CAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO

A powerful poem filled with raw emotion. I have been told that some veterans have found peace after reading the Zen Heart Sutra. I have recently created a free and public domain calligraphy/decorative version of the sutra myself, if you are interested, here is the link to it: https://archive.org/details/heartsutra2018
