Paid With a Smile

I don't write for fame or fortune
Or even to set myself free
I don't even care if it's good or bad
I write of the things I see

I look with a different pair of eyes
A different point of view
For that's what poetry is all about
Showing what I see to you

It's all about letting someone see
Things in a brand new way
"That's something I've never thought about"
I strive to hear them say

Sometimes it can even change their minds
By something they've read or heard
Wouldn't it be great to change the world
Through the power of a single word?

I really don't care about the money
For that's just not my style
Instead of all the fame and fortune
I'd rather be paid with a smile
