This poem has surreal meaning to me. Throughout my entire life I have felt like an outcast, a misfit. Every time I think I am accepted, I have to learn I'm not and usually because of not the majority but because of a few, a handful of people, who resent me, are jealous of me.
When I was a child and into early adulthood, this was difficult for me to handle. But then a dear and very wise friend told me one day, "Do not lament or lose sleep over those who do not accept you, who are jealous of you, and who speak ill of you. People are never jealous or envious of your lesser characteristics. Such people are covetous of your good qualities they feel are lacking within themselves. By bringing you down, they feel lifted, but they are only displaying a poor reflection of themselves." Wisdom!
I have never forgotten these words and over the years I've learned I need not to seek the acceptance of others, for the right and good people will, and if one seeks acceptance, they invariably will compromise their integrity. I'm a leader not a follower and if no one follows, this is fine with me. I've walked alone with God many times.
Since this poem only covers the issue of being treated as an outcast, I expanded further about it and similar situations on my blog in my *additional thoughts* (which when clicked on at the bottom, will expand) for anyone who might care to read. It's my sincere intention to help and/or encourage others who are being or have been treated like an outcast, like you're worthless; who are being or have been bullied, ostracised, belittled, etc. to have faith in yourselves and know the ill treatment of others can be overcome and the strength to overcome is within "you". Don't allow others the power to dictate who you are. Own the power yourself because the power over yourself is YOURS!
I believe in life we endure hardships, unpleasantness, hurt, anguish, pain, etc. for a reason and I believe the reason is to teach us humility and to show and have more compassion, empathy, forgiveness, understanding, etc. for/towards others, which are, after all, the Elements of Love. Also, knowledge gained should be shared so others may reap the benefit of. Spread around the blessing of knowledge so others may too, feel and benefit from the blessing!
It's good to keep in mind...
"Mature people are inspired;
Immature people covet what's desired."
