Out of the Mouth of Babes
Out of the Mouth of Babes
By Elton Camp
His paycheck seemed to Ned enough
His wife could take care of other stuff
No matter that Meg held a job too
The housework was all hers to do
He didn’t think he was being a jerk
To decline to perform women’s work
“I’m just so tired at the end of the day,
So around the house I am going to lay.”
Meg vacuumed, cleaned, dusted too
Only late at night was she through
However, their little son took it all in
At their wedding picture, he did grin
Then the next thing that the child said:
“It’s when Mom came to work for us, Dad.”
Ned looked up with guilt in his eyes
A child’s wisdom was quite a surprise
