Notes About The Poem

Note: Our planet Earth has the wrong name. It should be Planet Water because 70% of its surface is covered by liquid water. Life here is water based. The search for life elsewhere in the Universe starts with the search for water. There may be other forms of life, but water-based life is the life that we know.

Best Quotes about Water

Our Planet Water

planet’s name is wrong
Water, not Earth, it should be
for water bathes it

search for life beyond,
by divining for water,
for life craves water

mater and matrix
water is the crux of life,
fluid H2O

The water cycle
drains rainfall, down to ocean
where vapor forms clouds

terrestrial cells
swim in primordial soup,
in bags from ocean

dying for a drink,
the most dear commodity
on Earth is Water

the worth of water
is unfathomable, til
the well runs bone dry

plants tap the sun’s light
to split water molecules,
leaking oxygen

animals breathe in
the oxygen made by plant’s
photosynthesis

plants split the water
made by all respiring cells
breathing oxygen

fluid water soft,
is yielding and compliant,
but flow carves canyons

your tears are salty
for your blood came from the sea
in circulation

the whale ancestors
as fish climbed, from sea to shore
went back as mammals

Dear John, I’ve found you again through your poems. I love this one. Memories of shared time working on waterways …

Yep! A scientist, born under Pisces - and you can't get over that!
