Our Forefathers' Panacea

Our Forefathers' Panacea

Our forefather's Panacea
Would be wonderful to see
Life, liberty, pursuit of happiness
These goals were never free

For independence signed their names
Put their lives there on the page
Risking all for all a better life
Collectively a common sage

Backed it up with revolution
A tree to grow from planted seed
Facing unknown fear stopped some of them
For others it was greed

Either way was selfishness
Not for the common good
If that's not what you're thinking now
Perhaps you really should

The journey is not over
Our founders' goals not just for you
Remember “all” the key word here
The rich, the poor, the old, the new

Appreciation for what's guaranteed
On many of us lost
The “pursuit” of dreams is promised
Not the attainment without cost

Our way of life is threatened
From the outside and the in
If we want it to continue
Must work together to begin

Evaluate what's needed
For the betterment of all
Sign your name upon the page
Commit your life to stop the fall
