Our First Date

The candles burned bright
in the dark starry night
the wind was a warm summer's breeze
blowing through the trees
this night was special because it was our first date
and so far it was going great
we sat on the red and white checkered blanket
I finally experienced love firsthand
Now I understand
So I reached for his hand
then he turned towards me with a big old smile
I could only stare just for a while,
He scooted closer then wrapped his arm around my waist
I knew i'd never be replaced,
His grasp was so firm
I didn't even squirm,
I wanted to seem bolder
so I laid my head on his shoulder,
he rest his head on mine
this is totally a sign,
we looked up at the sky just in time
to see a shooting star pass right by,
I told him make a wish
and my stomach sunk in an abyss,
for what he said next gave me butterflies,
He said he wished for us to be for all eternity
I felt his words internally,
I just stared into his truthful honest eyes
I literally almost cried
happy tears of course
for I wouldn't wish for a divorce
but then again this was only our first date
but with those words I knew it was fate.
for you can't look someone in the eyes and
say those words so meaningfully
I leaned in and gave him a kiss
I looked back into his eyes and they were filled with bliss
Then he stood up and pointed at me and said I will put a ring on your finger
Those words will forever linger
In my ear with the memory of our first date.
