Our Dusty Feet Had Never Drift

Our dusty feet had never drift
Through Jerusalem's sacred streets
Nor did our fingers ever lift
Your garment's hem by faith's feats

Your fingers breaking common bread
Had never opened our sight
Beyond your word all we tread
Is faith's passage through the night

I long to sip the new wine
And to for the old man weep
In the rain become your brine
And the humblest of your sheep

To take the cross all the way
Yoked to your spirit by grace
Feel all burdens melt away
And clothed anew see your face

All we have is friendship here
A slate for love, the heart's stage
To share with each, a small tear
For each other's life to rage

In our fellowmen you live
Again, every need a hope
To surrender and forgive
Our thin measure in your scope

My heart prays my tired hands heal
The broken dreams around me
The little wounds others feel
Compared to your Calvary.
