Our Dog Dusty

He was a great and loyal collie,

he was just a 6 week old puppy

when we got him from my brother

Dave, his dog just had 6 puppies,

which Dusty was one of them.

So on a beautiful October day

in 1964 we brought him home.

Such a sweet and beautiful Collie

he was, it was love at first sight.

He learned many tricks, I could

see that he was a very smart dog

from the start, I never seen a dog

learn so fast.

I later found out just how smart

he was.

One day we were outside

sitting on the porch, our two

kids were playing when they

attempted to leave the yard,

Dusty ran up to them and

herded them back into

the yard, I could not believe what

I had just seen, what a dog, I thought.

Then one day while the kids were

taking a nap, I looked outside

to see how Dusty was doing

and he was gone.

I looked everywhere for him,

no luck, he was gone.

To this day I wonder what

happened to him, someone

took him and I just hope he found

a good home.

Back to Dusty -again. It frustrates me deeply that someone would claim your special pet as their own. Beautiful story. Requiem, James. Gwendolen

What a sad ending, James. I know how devastated you must have been. But let's just hope Dusty found another good home.

oh man that is hard James .I hear you .We had a collie back then too. Loved that dog. He was a great herder also/ on the farm we used him to help herd the cows. Keep thinking good thoughts about the fate of your dog.... a temporary gift from God made a lasting loving memory for you and he may have gone on to help others

Very sad. I won't cry at most relatives funeral's unfortunately, but when my Max passed away, a 16 year old mutt, I bawled like a baby. It still hurts to this day and that was over 2 years ago. Pets are amazing because not only do they provide companionship, but they are family in and that of itself.

Poor little Dusty. I had a Collie as a child...and she bit me! But, she was old and I was young and probably rubbed her the wrong way. My feelings hurt more than the bite did! You must miss Dusty so!

It sounds like Dusty knew something was wrong and "herded your children back in" the yard. Later Dusty was taken and who would herd them back in now? Gets scary with the passing of time. Sorry for your loss, Judy
