Our Daughters
Forty years before the sun
Then three more and a new door
Bursting heart overfilled by love
Those glorious bundles from above
The time it flew with blinding speed
Now their lives be their own
Mother and father together alone
Memories like shadows in our minds
Happiness we pray that they will find
The shortened hallway filled with dark
Hand on knob we await the Ark
Glances cast over shoulder slope
Bittersweet we wish them hope
Rustling leaves in life’s breeze
We dry our eyes upon on our sleeve
Then close the door and softly leave
