Our Choice

If these choices are ours,
they can live at least one day longer than
yours
and that’s better for me…
If known they must be revealed
When concealed they tend to tilt
a habit towards deceit
They channel doubt towards
facility
A fractured smile or a head turn
that implies little
Just to proceed in step
and remember nothing
If choice avails us one last leap
Its tenderness must at most adjoint
a matching restraint of our discarded cues
We tested a quilt thus woven,
death’s every second step thus misses
Let’s try another before the fog lifts
We can, Vee, wherever you are
You weave the tale
and I will tell it
It’s our eternal choice
