Orders From Above
The sun yet down, my heart in thought
Usually benevolent, now consumed by wrath
A nation…once potential like air, gone with the wind leaving mockery and despair
How did this happen, what happened to love
Overtaken by madness called orders from above
A faithful servant, an unknown God
Fights for his master, ready to spill blood
He acts on instinct, no time for a word
Will all be worth it, thinks of his masters reward
He lacks compassion, denies a leaders right
All in the name of his invisible God’s might
Governors denied entry to support a friend
Someone please tell me when all this will end
Watching the news, surprised at what I saw
So much impunity, no regard for the law
This has gone too far, said I in exasperation
What happened to guilt, shame and condemnation
The story is almost over, but before I go
I’ll tell you of a speaker, representing people he may not know
Searched by soldiers, reasons yet unknown
Power and hierarchy meaningless, blame it on the orders from above.
